Cemetery Board Meeting Minutes - September 2023

​

The St. Columbkill/Holy Trinity Cemetery Association Board met Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Columbkill Church Center. Opening prayer was led by Fr. McCabe.

Members present: Fr. McCabe, Brian Buck, Billy Gadient, Wayne Gadient, Maureen Lodermeier, Jerome McNamara, Marty O’Connor.

Meeting was called to order by Chair Wayne Gadient at 1:05 p.m.

Secretary report was approved as read.

Financial report was given by Marty O’Connor. Motion by Fr. McCabe, seconded by Brian to reinvest $15,000.00 from Perpetual Care Fund into a CD. Motion carried. Motion by Brian, seconded by Fr. McCabe to roll-over Operating Funds CD with Marty to determine CD length oftime & interest rate most prudent. Motion carried. Motion by Jerome, second by Billy to accept financial report. Motion carried.

Unfinished Business/General Order

-Tree Project: Wayne and Jerome watered trees during summer/fall 2023. Thank-you expressed from Board members.

-Gravesite maintenance: Billy, Cemetery Safety Officer, reported current condition of Cemetery appears acceptable. No need for leveling/raising of headstones and footstones this year.

- A summary and pictures of Projects completed 2022 was submitted to Parish bulletin in April, 2023.

-Asphalt entrances surfacing: The project was completed Summer 2023. Wayne & Jerome finished dirt fill work, seeding, & grass watering. The Richard Ryan family donated 100% of the quoted project cost ($913.50). A thank-you note was sent to the family. Entrance pictures & article along with acknowledgement of donation were submitted to the Parish bulletin for September, 2023 inclusion.

-Beautification and other improvements to the Cemetery were discussed. A notice seeking input from parishioners with ideas and suggestions will be submitted to the parish bulletin X 4 weeks.

-Teresa Buck donated, planted, & maintained flowers summer 2023. Maureen will send a thank-you note.

New Business

-Black dirt pile for gravesites is located in the SE corner of the Cemetery. As weeds overgrow, it becomes increasingly unsightly. Possible alternatives were discussed. One idea is to change the location of the pile. Marty will seek input from Nick O’Connor (gravesite maintenance) and Jerome from Mary Jo McNamara (church lawn mowing). They will report back to the Board.

NEXT CEMETERY ASSOCIATIN BOARD MEETING: Tuesday, March 12, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Columbkill Church Center.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
